1. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)Test:
As 60% of Indian women suffer from thyroid disorders, a TSH test becomes crucial to ensure whether your thyroid gland is functioning to its optimal. TSH test results can help determine the remedial measures you’d require in case your thyroid gland secretions hormones are not adequate. Hair-fall, depression and irregular menstrual cycles are the primary signs of a thyroid disorder.
2. Pap Smear Test:
It is estimated that every year about 74000 women in India die of cervical cancer. Its fatality can be reduced only if it’s treated in the early stage. But cervical cancer has no marked symptoms until it’s too late. That is why getting a Pap Smear Test done once in every two years is a must especially for women who are sexually active.
3. Complete Blood Count (CBC):
As per the Global Nutrition Report 2017, 51% of Indian women between 15-49 years of age are anemic (deficiency of red blood cells). Regular CBC test is important to ensure a healthy proportion of blood corpuscles, thereby preventing the onset of anaemia.
4. Vitamin D Total & Calcium Test:
Good bone density needs to be maintained in order to prevent
osteoporosis – a disease that is said to affect 200 million women worldwide. Good bone-health can be attained by keeping a check on the Vitamin D and calcium levels. Regular testing helps decide how much and for how long vitamin D supplements are needed.
5. Vitamin B12 & Folate Test:
Vitamin B12 and folate are essential Vitamins that are a part of the B complex of vitamins. They facilitate the normal development of RBC, repair of tissues and cells and synthesis of DNA. Deficiency in either B12 or folate can lead to macrocytic anaemia, a condition with enlarged RBC. Strict vegetarians are at a higher risk of developing vitamin B12 deficiency, since it’s obtained largely from animal products such as meat, poultry, eggs etc. It’s important to check for Vitamin B12 and folate concentration timely through blood tests in order to avoid the risks of developing anaemia.
